Artell Smith has enjoyed an extensive business and human resources career, holding key leadership roles in large, multifaceted organizations. His expertise spans a broad range of HR functions, including senior executive support, talent management, generalist services, operations, employee engagement, technology integration, recruitment strategies, and the implementation of offshoring initiatives. Artell’s proficiency extends to spearheading transformational projects globally, showcasing his adeptness in navigating the complexities of HR work.
In addition to his corporate roles, Artell is a consultant and educator at the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Wisconsin School of Business, Center for Professional & Executive Development, and Principal and Managing Director of WatchWorks Management Consulting LLC.
His literary contributions include two leadership books, “No Time to Waste – Microbehaviors: Leveraging the Little Things to Become a Better Leader” and “Engage.Coach.Develop – Building Strong Relationships That Drive Individual and Team Performance.” He has also delved into fiction, co-authoring “Taj’s Sabbatical: Book One, Sol System Enforcer Chronicles” with his son Troy Smith and writing “A Death at Christmas and Other Wondrous Events.”
Artell most recently was Vice President of Human Resources – Talent, HR Shared Services, and Technology at Quad (formerly Quad/Graphics), a leading $3 Billion digital media and printing company (NYSE: QUAD) with over 15,000 global employees. He also served as the executive director of strategic programs at BlueSoHo, a division of Quad/Graphics.
Artell’s previous executive positions include serving as the HR Senior Vice-President for Strategy, Technology & Operations at Aon plc, a $12B global insurance brokerage and HR consultancy, and as CHRO at Aon Hewitt, a 25,000-employee, $4B subsidiary of Aon plc.
Artell’s earlier career includes pivotal roles as HR Vice President, Business Process Outsourcing at Hewitt Associates, Vice President of Training & Communications at Fidelity Investments, Retail Investor Services, and Senior HR Benefits Specialist at ExxonMobil.
Artell’s academic credentials include a Master of Public Administration degree from Brigham Young University Graduate School of Management, complemented by a Bachelor of Arts in history and political science from the same institution.
